Dr. Lou Ignarro is a science consultant and member of the Nutrition Advisory Board. As a pharmacologist and chemist, he has dedicated his life to researching and finding ways to improve cardiovascular health and longevity.

Dr. Ignarro is a Nobel* laureate in Physiology or Medicine. He won the prestigious scientific award in 1998 for his discovery of nitric oxide’s range of benefits to the human body. His findings inspired important research by scientists around the world and led to the development of Niteworks^®. Dr. Ignarro has published numerous articles on his research. He is also the founder of the Nitric Oxide Society and founder and editor-in-chief of Nitric Oxide Biology and Chemistry. Dr. Ignarro received the Basic Research Prize of the American Heart Association in 1998 for his outstanding contributions to the advancement of cardiovascular science. Since then, he has also been inducted into the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

He is a distinguished professor of medical pharmacology at UCLA^† School of Medicine, now professor emeritus. Dr. Ignarro trained over 100 graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and visiting scholars. He taught more than 3,500 medical students over four decades.

Dr. Ignarro graduated with a B.S. in chemistry and pharmacy from Columbia University in 1962. He then went on to earn his Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of Minnesota in 1966. Dr. Ignarro also received a postdoctoral fellowship in chemical pharmacology from the National Institutes of Health in 1968.

Dr. Ignarro enjoys running and cycling. He has completed more than a dozen marathons after running his first one at the age of 64. His favorite Herbalife Nutrition products include Niteworks^® and Herbalifeline^®.
